Europe Part 2

After visiting my brother in Madrid for 3 days, we left and went to Paris for 4 days. The first day that we were in Paris, we went to see the louvre. I am not a huge fan of museums, so that was a very long day for me. After the lourve, we toured around the city for a little while and then got dinner at a little restaurant along the river. The food there was phenomenal, and that seemed to be the theme for the trip. Every restaurant that we ate at that trip had fantastic food. The most memorable part of that trip was definitely the third day we were there. We just got off the metro near our hotel and we were walking along the river. The further we walked down, we noticed that there was a little bit of smoke in the ski. We looked across the river to see where it was coming from, and we saw a fire had started at Notre dame. We were absolutely shocked when we saw this. As we stood there, people came running in from everywhere to where we were to see what was happening. As time went on, the fire only got worse. It began to spread throughout the roof of the first tower into the main part. There were thousands and thousands of people in the streets. The only noises that I was able to hear were sirens and crying from those around us. The most devastating moment of it all was when the main spire in the middle of the church caught fire and went collapsing down. That was the moment when a lot of people realized that putting out this fire was going to take them quite a while.

The last day of the trip, we went to the eiffel tower at night, which was just spectacular. The view from the tower is like nothing i’ve ever seen before

My favorite vacation that i’ve gone on in my life thus far would have to be the spring break of my senior year when my family and I went to europe. Last year during his spring semester my brother decided to study abroad in madrid. Because of this, My mom and dad decided that it would be a good opportunity for my sister and I to finally go to europe and “broaden our horizons” as they put it. So, we were going to go to madrid for 3 days and paris for 4 days.

When We got to Madrid and started touring around, I immediately thought the city was spectacular. The vibrant colors of all the buildings, the older architecture, and also all the cool bars and restaurants throughout the city. We spent the whole first day just strolling around the city and stopping at these cool little outdoor restaurants. Since I was the legal age I was finally able to go to a bar. So my father, brother, and his friends abroad took me out bar hopping throughout the city, and it was one of the more fun nights I’ve ever had in my life. The next day we went to the reina sofia museum. I got seperated from my family at one point and my phone was broken, so I was wandering around the museum aimlessly trying to find them for roughly 45 minutes. When I finally linked up with them again my mother was not very happy with me. That night, my family and I went back to our AirBND on the earlier side. My brother and I went on our balcony and we were exchanging stories from the past few months of our lives. Even though it may have not been as fun as the first night, it was just as memorable.

Words to live by

For the most part, every person has a certain motto or quote that they carry with them throughout life and it helps shape them into the person that they are. The quote that I carry with me through my life is from the monty python movie “life of Brian”. at one point in the movie, Brian and his other followers were all crucified. when they were all hanging there together, one of the characters started telling every one to “always look on the bright side of life”. What he meant by that in that situation was that even though they were all just crucified, they were all together.

After watching this movie, that saying “always look on the bright side of life” really stuck with me. I found myself frequently thinking about it when I would get in a crappy situation, and I was able to see the good things in the bad times. this mindset has helped get me through alot of situations in my everyday life that I used to frequently be annoyed by. An example of this would have to be the quarenteen that we are all currently in. Even though it stinks that we are unable to go out and socialize with our friends and that we didnt return to school, I realized that this is a good time to spend some quality time with my family. So, rather than Completely isolate myself in my room and be miserable, ive decided to just hang out with my family and try differnt activities that I would have never found myself doing if it were not for the current situation that we are all In.

So, a saying that helps me have a better time in my everyday life is “always look on the bright side of life”. I suggest that you try living your life with this saying in mind and see how much more enjoyable life can be.

Every single person has that one song that when it is played it makes them feel pure happiness. this happiness mainly stems from the song taking you back to a specific memory of when it was played during a fun tie in your life. I have a few of these songs which I’m going to tell you about.

whenever I hear this song played in my headphones or at a party it takes me back to when I was at the govball music festival last year. I was with all of my best friends from high school at this music festival and we went to see one of our favorite artists but we went to the wrong stage. we didn’t realize until the performance started and matoma came on stage. He played this song when the sun was setting over the Hudson River and the light in the sky was amazing. Every time I hear this song, I think back to that moment.

I had never heard this song until I came to the University of Dayton. the First time I heard it was my first time hanging out with my closest friends at UD. This was our anthem our first semester, and we would play it every time before we would hang out. Every time I hear this song it makes me think about all the crazy shenanigans that would happen with my friends when this song was played.

This song reminds me of my last summer before college. It takes me back to the days of bonfires with friends, being at the beach with my family, and just driving around when there was nothing better to do at night. the most specific memory this song brings me is from my last night home before leaving for college. That night had the most beautiful weather with a full moon and no clouds in the sky. I wasnt ready to go to bed when I got home that night, so I went and sat outside with my dog. I played this song on repeat, and just thought about the new stage of my life that was going to sart in the next few days.

This song reminds me of the long car rides with my family when I was younger. Before the Days of the AUX cord when people would use CD’s, my parents would always make CD’s for the trip. This is one of their favorite songs, so they would include it on every CD that they would make. Every time it would come on, All the windows would be lowered(depending on the weather) and the music would be blared. There was no better feeling then driving down to the beach and hearing Robert Plant singing with a mandilin in the backround.

The New York Jets

My favorite sports team is the New York Jets by a landslide. Not only do I like the jets because they are currently the more superior new york sports team, but also because it is a tradition in my family. This tradition all started with my grandfather. He grew up in hell’s kitchen, N.Y. and Clifton Nj. His family was extremely poor, and they didn’t have much while growing up. He always wanted to go to giant games growing up, but they couldn’t afford to do so. When the jets, who were the Titans at the time, came to new york tickets were super cheap. My grandfather, who was just out of the army and starting a new job, was finally able to afford tickets to a professional football game. So, he began taking my dad and uncles to games when they were younger. As they got older, My father and uncles kept becoming bigger and bigger fans. When they all got older, my dad and uncle got season tickets to the games. So, growing up myself and my cousins were always going to games. Growing up going to this games was a major part of my childhood. There was nothing better than waking up early on a sunday morning and driving over to metlife. Firing up the grills, and playing some pickup football in the parking lot with my cousins. Even though we havent had the best seasons in recent year, these games have still been a blast. In three years, the Jets will win the superbowl though. You heard it here first!

The Perfect Week

Everyone at some point in their life has thought about the fact that their life could end at any moment, and that they wouldn’t know it was going to until it happened. When this question pops into my head, I like to think about whether or not the last week of my life was a good week, and if it highlighted a lot of important aspects of my life.

If I had to make my perfect week, I would start it off with my whole extended family for two days in the outer banks. Every other year we all rent a house on the beach together for a week, and it is a blast being there.

From there, I would go skiing in park city with my high school friends for a day. Throughout high school I did skiclub with all of my friends, and we would have a blast. So many memories were made on those slopes the first three years of high school. Last year we also had our senior ski trip. so we all went up to vermont for the weekend and got to stay in our own condo. This was one of the most fun weekends for me when I was in high school, so why not relive that awesome moment with my friends at one of the best ski mountains in the world.

From there I would like to spend a day with my college friends at the university of dayton, doing what we normally do every weekend. Despite only knowing all these people for just six months, I am extremely close with all of them and have some of the best times with them. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend time with these people then just messing around at UD for a day.

After that, I would spend my last three days with just my family. We would spend one night in Key West because that Is where we have had the most fun on vacation. We would then spend one day in Hoboken and New York City because we have gone on little day trips to those two places my entire life. Then, the final day with my family would just be us staying home on a sunday. We would all get nothing done that day, and we would all be super lazy.

So, If I had to choose my perfect week, It would be full of fun with all my friends and family, but it would end with just another lazy day at home with my Mom, Dad, brother, sister, and dog.

Favorite movie

When talking about their favorite movie, most people think of the best movie they have seen. So typically, their answers to the favorite movie questions are the godfather, goodfellas, shawshank redemption, and other critically acclaimed movies. However, when I talk about my favorite movie, it is not because it is the best movie i’ve seen to date, but the effect it has had on my life. My favorite movie is the way way back.

The way way back is a smaller budget film shot in 2013. Its about a shy teenage boy named Liam who goes away for summer vacation to a small beach town in Massachusetts with his mom, his mom’s boyfriend, and the boyfriends daughter. In the beginning of the movie he is depicted as the “loser” of the town, being a more quiet kid with no friends. One day during the week, Liam decides to go to the waterpark in an attempt to get away from his boredom. While there, he met a guy named Owen, and he was the boss of the waterpark. Owen can tell that liam is having a tough go around at life, and decides to take him under his wing and gives him a job at the waterpark. This job helps liam cope with this new environment he was put in for the summer, and allows him to blossom into a funny and quirky kid.

I watched this movie for the first time right before my junior year of high school. When I saw the character Liam It reminded me of myself as a freshman. The character Owen reminded me of those upperclassmen who helped me get adjusted to the big change that high school is. So, the movie reminded me to look out for those younger kids who were having a tough time in high school and be their friend. By doing that, I met some of my closest friends.

DIRTY JERZZZ

When I came out to ohio at the start of the school year, one thing became very clear to me off the bat: New jersey is not a very liked state by people from the Midwest. This was news to me, due to the fact that it was my first time ever out in the Midwest. One thing that really annoys me about this false idea that people have about New Jersey is the fact that none of them have ever been to the Garden State.

This false belief that people have about the garden state stems from how we are depicted in television and movies: a region of land that only has smokestacks, factories, and obnoxious people that live at the Jersey shore. The only are these rumors about the beautiful state of New Jersey not true, it’s really the exact opposite of a lot of them.

I’ll admit that our state doesn’t look very glamorous when you get off your plane in the Newark airport. But, if you venture just 5 miles outside of that area, you will see how nice New Jersey really is, and realize that you judged a book by its cover.

The three best things I think New Jersey has to offer would have to be the Jersey shore(which is debatably home to some of the nicest beaches on the East Coast), to close access to major cities (Philadelphia and New York city depending on what part of jersey you are from), and the beautiful hiking trails that weave through the Appalachian Mountains.

I understand that because of how Hollywood depicts New Jersey, we are bound to get some hate from the other states. But, I just hope that people realize that their perception of the garden state is wrong, and that we are actually one of the nicest states in America.

Big Sur

When I think of the perfect day, the one that always comes to mind had to be when me and my family were in california. It didn’t start off as I would have liked it to, because the vote for what we were going to do that day did not go my way. Rather than going to seaworld, my dad decided that we were going to go to big sur. Since the vote for what we were going to be doing that day did not go my way, I was in a little bit of a mood at first. But, I managed to snap out of it right when we got out of the car for lunch.

The restaurant we went to was called the river inn. When we got their the hostess asked me a question I didn’t think I would ever be asked, which was: “would you like to eat in the river?” we gave it a try and it was awsome. My brother managed to fall off of his seat which lead to him being completely drenched, which was a nice touch to a great meal.

After that, we kept trecking along the coast and were looking at some of the nicest views that I’ve ever gazed upon in my life. we kept getting out of the car every 5 minutes to walk down to the beautiful beaches, climb around on these huge rocks that were in the water, and to go swimming. we kept doing all those things for roughly 6 hours, and it never got old. But the best part about the day would have to be the sunset over the ocean. I’ve seen a lot of sunsets, but that topped them all.

Blog #1

I personally do not Identify as a writer, But I could see myself Identifying as a writer in the future. Writing has never been something I really excelled at in school. in the past i’ve been more of a math/science guy. My writing ability has improved tremendously in the past few years, but it still needs quite a bit of work. I would have to say my biggest weaknesses when it comes to writing is spelling and grammar as well as concluding a paper. I like to think that my strengths in writing is the flow of my body paragraphs. I think that im good at placing all of the evidence for my arguments in the correct order when it comes to an argumentative paper. I also think that I excel at creative writing rather than argumentative writing.

With these blogs, I am most excited for the fact that I can practice my creative writing, due to the fact that for many of these prompts I get to choose what I am going to be writing about, which I haven’t had the freedom of doing in past english classes that iv’e taken. Also, since I think I am pretty good at creative writing, I think I shouldn’t have a problem brainstorming ideas for other blog posts.

Some things im looking forward to about this course is the fact that we are not only learning english by reading books. I haven’t ever analyzed any sort of sitcom in my english classes before. That being said, I am interested to try out this brand new approach to learn about english.
